Hot Chip Live Video from Highline Ballroom in NYC!

hotchip_mhow_02_2010.jpg

Ok, so another reason that I’ve fallen off the face of the earth is because I was recovering from 2 Hot Chip shows in 24 hours. Best B-day week ever, especially when you add Yeasayer to the mix! *Anyway* I nabbed some video from the Myspace gig at Highline Ballroom the first night. Considering that it was being filmed by Ustream it felt rude to be “that girl” in the crowd waving a digicam in the air, so I only snuck 2 songs. 1.75 to be exact- torwards the end of “One Pure Thought” I got punched square in the back. I reflexively thought it was a security guard; alas it was just an enthusiastic crowd goer. PS Shout out to Self-Titled mag for the hook-up- much aloha! Best 2 shows we’ve ever seen ‘em play….

We Saw Animal Collective Last Night At Hammerstein Ballroom: Merriweather Post Pavillion FTW!

animalcollective.jpg
… and it was AMAZING. I love going to shows the day the album gets released. Everyone was in the best mood, and Andy Beta (with his friends Piotr and Dave) was dropping beats like nobody’s business in between acts. Animal Collective topped off the set (pre encore) with my fave song ever, “Will To Joy.” Here’s a live mp3 from awhile back to tide everyone over until the photos get edited, and be sure to pick up a copy of their 9th full length, Merriweather Post Pavillion, like NOW.

PS: Whatever scumbag is scalping the ticket for tonight’s Bowery gig for $9,000.00 - that’s a world of concert-karma pain you are setting yourself up for. “This will be the best concert of your life, even better than Daft Punk at Keyspan. Don’t be cheap.” WTF?????????????? Apparently “it’s NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests” - but it says nothing about beat-down threats or voodoo hexes! WHOOP!

SSION HITS THE WALLS & WORKS THE MIDDLE: Maria Porcaro Catches Their Bumpin’ Annex Gig!!!

Fresh off a tour opening for CSS, SSION (pronounced SHUN)’s gig at Ruff Club Friday night was one I’ve been anticipating for some time now. It’s quite obvious this talented multimedia collective- led by multifaceted fine artist, musician, and performer Cody Critcheloe and his man-sister J.A.M. - take great care in putting together each show. Let’s just say that they came packin’ backdrops, dancers, and an industrial strength flashlight that would make any P-Funk AllStar beam with pride. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys any of the above mentioned genre of art- if the aforementioned genre touches on smutty electro funk best heard while bumping naughty bits in the dark! Let’s hope SSION accomplishes what they set out from good ole Kansas City to do, because they’ll always have a platform here in NYC. It’s not just us and Lovefoxxx- Nick Zinner offers up a rendition on their Street Jizz Remix 12″ (Props to FYOF!) which just dropped December 19th. So we leave you on this high holy holiday to to hit the walls, work the middle, and show this Sleazetone artist the support they deserve.

Ooh La La Sebastien Tellier! The Man, The Myth, The Combover & The Panties’ Gig: Yes, Panties

sebastientellier_LPR_abbeyb.jpg

FOR SERIOUS in knicker - to - knicker ratios, Eagles of Death Metal have NOTHING on Sebastien Tellier. I haven’t seen that much underwear catapulted onstage since Tom Jones (aka THE MAN). Not suprising, considering the critical acclaim he’s been drawing includes comparisons to that of Serge Gainsbourg, Barry White and yes, Tom Jones. Whatever the case it was a great show (except for that whole keep-the-guestlist-VIPS-waiting-in-the-freezing-rain-for-40-minutes thing). If you’d like to read a mind blowingly awesome and legit critique of Mr. Tellier’s live show w/ photos at Le Poisson Rouge last week, hop on over to ‘Sup for some words of wisdom courtesy of Cameron Cook. If you just want to ogle Sebastien, check the videos below. Oh and the setlist for the December 11 2008 NYC gig was as follows:

KILOMETER
DIVINE
ROCHE
UNE HEURE
FINGERS OF STEEL
INDIANS
FANTINO
BROADWAY
LA RITOURNELLE
L’AMOUR ET LA VIOLENCE
//
SEXUAL SPORTSWEAR

The Dodos LIVE at Spiegel Tent NYC : Meric, Logan, Joe, and Video Footage. That’s All You Need.

Dodos_0343.jpg

Last night we went to SpiegelWorld- Spiegel Tent to be exact- and emerged incredibly invigorated so much so we even considered walking home. Why? The Dodos had yet again unleashed a bone crunching riff tastic bluesy set and we were pumped. I think my friend Josh said it best (after their London ULU gig): ‘and the ominous sound gradually built from a disco whisper to a thunderous tribal rumble. If you could imagine a rhino running towards you on a very long metal roof, then you’re getting the idea.’ Yes, yes we do. Check the video for Joe’s Waltz, the Ball, and more below. Photos to come!
