Vinyl Contest & MP3 Exclusive via ‘SUP Magazine: Electric Tickle Machine!

Electric_Tickle_Machine_Pre.jpgPhoto by Michael de Leon

You can’t tickle yourself. It’s laughter born from torture. It is the sound of forced glee with an undercurrent of pain and vulnerability. We’re all tied to tickle machines, and it’s high time to acknowledge and redefine our relationship with the fingers.

Electric Tickle Machine would like you to know that their name is not a euphemism for a vibrator. They use is as a reference to the mobius strip of humanity, technology and our tabloid nation. So who are they? 3 downtown kids (shout out to the East Village!) united under the ETM monker in 2008 and have been building up reputation for sweaty live gigs ever since. They cast an infectious spell over audiences that tends to inspire general mayhem and random hookups. It’s like that fairy tale The Red Shoes except the Chuck Taylor version on Avenue A. We’re talking curfew-breaking music.

This exclusive mp3 they were kind enough to provide us with recalls Enrico Morricone scoring a Band of Horses duel, Charles Bronson stubbing out a cigarette in Death Wish combined with a dash of the crowd euphoria - the kind that was in the air when the barriers collapsed at the Black Lips Brooklyn Pool Party show last summer. Liberated bad ass martial law. You can’t help but give in.

Electric Tickle Machine: Honest Injun by SUPMAG

After 2 awesome years of sharpening their teeth on the DIY scene, ETM’s debut album Blew it Again drops June 29th on their own label Science Diction. We’re giving away a vinyl copy of the album and a pair of tickets to their Northside Festival gig at Shea Stadium on June 25th in Brooklyn. Just email abbey@supmag.com with ETM in the subject line. Be sure to include your fave Charles Bronson flick and whether you’re in the market for the concert tickets or vinyl in the message. EASY. US residents only please.

Contest Time: The Runaways! Contest Ends Monday March 15th at Noon So Get On It!

TheRunawaysSoundtrack.jpg

Let’s file this under “Contest I Really Want To Rig But Won’t In Fear of Rock’n'Roll Karma… and Joan Jett.” Whew, glad to get that off my chest. Back to business- we’re giving away not one but TWO prizepacks in celebration of the upcoming biopic of The Runaways. Many people will be queuing up because Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart are rumored to make out. Now I’ll be queuing up for the premiere because the film is the full length directorial debut by Floria Sigusmondi, who is someone I unabashedly admire. As in, like, I’ve paid full price for her photo books. Her music videos you are probably already familiar with- She’s like the live motion version of David Carson’s classic Raygun covers. Everything from Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People” to the White Stripes’ “Blue Orchid” can be traced back to her. So be sure to support Women in Rock who Rock with Bangs or whatever that facebook group is called, and keep updated via the offical Runaways Myspace page. As you can see in the clip below, it’s best not to leave the house w/out knowing a little Suzi Quatro. Contest info below - US residents only this time.

This is a 2 parter. Rather than listing an email, why don’t we take stuff over to Twitter. Just tweet “@Punkphoto Runaways Contest Premiere Tix” or “@Punkphoto Runaways Contest Prizepack” and 2 winners will be chosen from the lot.

First prize gets a pair of tickets to an exclusive screening of The Runaways on Wednesday, March 17th 2010 in New York City at the AMC 19th Street Theater at 890 Broadway at 7 PM.

Second prize is pretty epic. The winner gets a t-shirt, a poster from the film, a copy of Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway by Cherie Currie and Tony O’Neill (which the film is based on), a copy of Joan Jett and the BlackheartsGreatest Hits CD, a copy of the film’s soundtrack (which includes tracks from the Runaways, the Stooges, the Sex Pistols, as well as the films’ stars Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning), plus a copy of Joan Jett’s upcoming photobook with Todd Oldham.

Sliimy Music Tee Contest (It’s my birthday… it always is)!

Welcome to all things Sliimy (pronounced “Sleemy”). If you’ve been on the receiving end of a brilliantly viral “Who Is Sliimy” tweet and are still going ‘Huh?’ You’ve come to the right place. So who is this intriguing character who is proving so fascinating to the good and the great? He’s Yanis Sahraoui, a 20-year-old from Saint-Etienne near Lyons. His friends and fans call him Sliimy, a nickname since childhood. Why? “Because I was really skinny, so lots of kids called me ‘spaghetti’,” he says, hardly explaining it at all. “So I stayed as Sliimy and created a blog called ‘Sliimy’. It doesn’t mean anything. It sounds like pop music.”

Why yes, yes it does. We’re giving away 1 custom Sliimy Music Tee (a $40 value, HOLLA) that comes complete with a download for his zingy and fresh debut album “Paint Your Face.” Just email punkphoto at gmail dot com with ‘Sliimy’ in the subject line and we’ll take care of the rest. PS: Lily Allen’s sleeve artist, Check Morris, designed the artwork for Sliimy’s debut album (and this shirt)! The fold-out collage for Paint Your Face is a riot of colours and shapes, fabrics and textures, surrealist brica-brac and objets d’art. Sounds just like his music if you ask us. So yeah. That’s who Sliimy is.

Les Savy Fav is Ready to Knock Your Socks Off :: Brand New Mp3s, Video Contest & Tour Dates!

supergroup.jpg

Les Savy Fav strike me as the audio equivalent of my brother’s boarding school crew of wise cracking misfits back in the day. Basically if I could withstand being teased incessantly for an hour they’d ease up and I was allowed, at times, to hang with the older boys and join in on the shenanigans. As a result I earned major cool points with the other girls which made life a hell of a lot easier when it came to hazing. Fast forward to now, and our fave Bklyn hybrid of punk and hot nerds (sorry, quirky deep thinkers) are FINALLY back with a new album entitled ‘Let’s Stay Friends.’ Regarding the photo: no silly, Eugene Mirman hasn’t joined LSF- (why would he with his Sub Pop deal?) but Syd is on the far right of the shot. See this is what happens when bands vanish instudio and I have to resort to posting recent pics of side projects! On that note, a summer of McCarren gigs just wasn’t the same without them. ANYWAY as a result of their efforts it is clear that the boys are back in town and up to no good. Awesome. Check out the mega-challenge called ‘Maybe Get Rich and Famous By Participating In And Then Winning Frenchkiss Records “LSF:LSF live” Video Contest’ *here*
