Blood Orange : Sutphin Blvd Video (R.I.P Heavenly Angel Octavia St. Laurent Manolo Blahnik)

I’ve been pretty vocal about how awesome Dev Hyne’s latest project, Blood Orange is (check out some live footage on ‘SUP) so when I came across this promo clip for the Sutphin Blvd single, I had to share. Glamour.

Umm, wow good call of the year! Soundbites conjectured that Free Blood would restore their twosome to a threesome for a song or two at their gig last night, and sure enough Al Doyle hopped onstage. Check out the duo in action for ‘Grumpy:

The Raconteurs Get Their Teenage Kicks Right Through the Night : Hang Tight For Tomorrow !!!

rac-rose-1.jpg

Listen up~ It’s no secret that we’ve preferred Jack White in this particular ensemble incarnation (better clothes choices too), so we’re pretty psyched for the release of the Raconteur’s Consolers of the Lonely on Tuesday. In the meantime enjoy their live cover of the Undertone’s Teenage Kicks, the original of course, and one from the lovely Nouvelle Vaugue.

In Case You Missed It Diamond Hoo Ha Men = Supergrass Minus Bassist Mick (Who Broke His Back)

SMASHDIAMOND.jpg

YES. So while Mick Quinn is resting from this sleepwalking accident these two are up to absolutely no good, and tying up a brief club tour in this quirky incarnation. Tonight they play SMASH AND GRAB. Check out their single ‘3-4-5.’ Maybe we’re just whores for garage rock, but it’s nice and gritty, totally stripped down so Gaz’s vox really howl. THAT BEING SAID, there would be no Supergrass without a thumping bassline, so we look forward to the next installment. Diamond Hoo Ha Men is a reference to Supergrass‘ upcoming single Diamond Hoo Ha Man, which is totally blowing us away. Damn.

The Whitsundays Could Totally Be the Secret Canadian Love Child of Brian Wilson and Ray Davies

WhitsundaysFRONTCOVER-copy.jpg

Yeah, yeah, the terms ‘Wurlitzer,’ ‘Zombies’ and ‘Syd Barret’ references are flying around in reference to the Whitsundays, whose upcoming release (S/T on Friendly Fire) drops on January 22nd. Trackwise ‘Loralee’ and ‘Sorry James’ seems to be the critical faves, but ‘It Must Be Me’ borders on Pet Sounds bliss, and therefore if necessary I’m gonna shout it from my rooftop in my underwear because it needs to be heard. Speaking of shouting (segway!) the Whitsundays just happen to be the side project of P2 faves Shout Out Out Out and Faunts. Oh Canada! You know I’ve never been to Edmonton, but once my suitcase got sent there by accident on the way from Honolulu to Calgary circa 1985. So when it finally got to our hotel my dad treated my Little Twin Star toothbrush with reverence as it was ‘more wordly’ than me. I was not thrilled.
