Everytime I see Seattle’s BOAT it feels like the first. They’re effing amazing, as is evident in the footage from NYC Popfest last weekend. Now I HATE describing bands by referencing others, but I think the easiest way to sum ‘em up is like… if Harvey Danger smashed into Titus Andronicus. BOAT for president. Get their 3rd album Setting the Paces here. There’s a new EP in the works too. That is all.
Dear Alexis and Derek, I’m pretty sure that Will has Sleigh Bells on Google alert, so I’ll just post this in the open instead of cluttering up your inbox. I am so effing proud of you two and Treats is amazing. See you tonight.
PS- To my readers, yup this is just a stream. These are my friends and this is how they make a living, so please buy the album - you won’t regret it.
London chop-shop auteurs Clock Opera have done it again, this time laying hands upon Marina and the Diamonds‘ new single “I Am Not A Robot.” In matters of remixes that just might trump the originals, these lads are living proof that lightening strikes more than once. Zap! All of this leads up to Clock Opera’s own 7″ release of A Piece of String dropping June 7th on Maman Records. One can only imagine if they’re this good at bringing out the best in other people’s material, that their own stuff will be nothing short of amazing.
Liars are coming to Music Hall of Williamsburg tomorrow. This is fantastic news. Here’s footage from the tour when Angus was recovering from a broken back. Anyone that can rock that hard from the confines of the chair gets my vote. Just imagine what’s gonna go down now that he’s mobile! See you in the pit.
So Cameron and I had the IMMENSE luck (more like God intervening) in showing up to the Big Beat relaunch party just in time for Robin S. to take the stage (Erm, stripper platform? It was a club on Washington and 12th during Winter Music Conference don’t judge!) and belt out “Show Me Love.” Seriously, we squeezed through the doors as we heard her pick up the mic and people started to cheer. Somehow we slipped up front right during those fabulous opening bars and she ripped into the song. And then she played it again (seriously, the video is below), and it was over. I mean why not live by your hit and a reprise? WE LOVE THIS WOMAN. Spotted: Isa GT and Laetitia *girlcore* getting down front and center! PS Isa’s PA CHIKIRRI EP drops this week on Man Recordings- here’s to the next generation of fabulous divas ala Robin S.!
It was a tough choice that I actually mulled over for 12 days. I had a photopass for Hole at the Spin party- SCORE. I could either shoot from up close for 2 songs OR take a chance, get there 4 hours early, and try to find a spot up front to sneak video. Since my ultimate goal since day 1 with Punkphoto is to make people feel like they’re RIGHT THERE UP FRONT, I chose the latter. Cut to 7 of my friends in the photo pit turning around and asking if I’d lost my mind. One even felt my forehead for a fever. Anyway, I think I made out ok, with some still shots as well. The performance was PHENOMEAL- Courtney Love at her most resilient. She is back, and this new album is going to blow everyone’s minds (and pants) off.
Well you know the deal is, about fashion, is that proletariat male rock critics have a real bruce springsteen problem with like denim boomer issues… We as females have thousands and thousands of years of fashion in our DNA, we want to wear NICE FUCKING CLOTHES. IT’S PART OF WHAT WE DO! So I don’t have an issue with it. If you have an opportunity to go to the OSCARS in a FABULOUS GOWN and be ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS you’re going to FUCKING TAKE IT. I don’t have to like listen to a rule. Who made that rule? Some dumb guy… Amy I right? Oh yeah.
Back from Winter Music Conference and multiple run-ins with Mr. F*** Me I’m Famous himself, David Guetta and the amazing Kelis. It’s only right that we share (FINALLY!!!) the video for Kelis‘ Acapella, perhaps our fave Guetta collaboration to date. Now to get some sleep… Links to our coverage to come!
