We Went To Yacht Rock Live at the Knitting Factory, Saw Episode 11, & Touched Hollywood Steve

a_yachtrock_kf_592.jpg

TO ANSWER everyone’s question, we don’t know when Yacht Rock Episode 11 will be up. We were too drunk at that point, and there was an old dude throwing punches up front at the Knitting Factory so we were a bit distracted through episodes 7-10. Security came shortly thereafter. Is it worth the wait? YES! What question does it answer? The KENNY LOGGINS TRAJECTORY FROM CADDYSHACK TO FOOTLOOSE, as well as WHY JIMMY BUFFET IS NOT CONSIDERED 100% YACHT ROCK. Do you really want to know who gueststars? CELEBRITIES. Not enough to be truly distracting, more like 2 cherries on top. Wha-POW (Oates whip kick followed by groin stroke)! MORE PHOTOS OF YOUR FAVE CHARACTERS after the jump!

The RZA (Wu Tang Clan)- Live Performance
plus Nick Catchdubs & Guests
Saturday December 29 at Hiro Ballroom

GBH is very proud to present a live performance by the one and only RZA (of Wu Tang Clan) at Hiro Ballroom on 12/29. One of the most accomplished, respected and influential names in hip-hop, RZA is the de-facto leader of the Wu Tang Clan (which he started with Gza in 1992). He has produced almost all of Wu-Tang Clan’s albums as well as many Wu-Tang solo and affiliate projects. His solo albums have gone platinum and gold (you my know him as Bobby Digital) and he has been involved in numerous successful collaborations. Lately he has gained more attention for his work in films, whether it be on screen or as a composer of original film scores… .he recently starred in ‘American Gangster’ with Denzel Washington as well as Miami Vice and others, in 2007 he did the score of the American adaptation of the Japanese anime Afro Samurai starring Samuel L. Jackson, and he is reported to be involved in Tarantino’s new Kill Bill project…

Nick Catchdubs and guests will be DJing. Plus we are looking forward to some other surprises along the way…
Hiro: 371 W16th St. at 9th Ave. Doors Open 10pm. 21+ with I.D. $10 Advance Tickets Available -

The Kills Give Us Fever ~ New Video, Mp3s, Photos from that Private Gig, and Hotness in General

ab_kills_DSC_0008.jpg

It’s been awhile since the Kills popped up on our radar. Their second LP, 2005’s No Wow, proved to be a great crossover into the mainstream vernacular for the duo, as well as provide one of my fave videos of all time, ‘The Good Ones’ (directed by Rojo). The last time we heard from them was their 2006 release of a Serge Gainsbourg cover, a heartbreaking rendition of ‘I Call it Art.’ Check it out, I think it’s better than the original. The Kills : La Chanson de Slogan Mp3 (zShare)

This week marks the release of the video for the Kill’s first single off of Midnight Boom, the highly anticipated new album on Domino Records (who in my opinion can do no wrong). Entitled URA Fever, this downtempo garage ballad smoulders with their trademark ‘are they or aren’t they’ electrically dysfunctional dynamic. Plus, it starts off with a dial tone, so I can add it to my list of awesome songs that sample that- think Blondie’s Hanging on the Telephone, and Spacehog’s In the Meantime. Prepared to be wowed by this track and the new video- well worth the wait! The Kills : URA Fever Mp3 (zShare)

Live Review : Balkan Beat Box’s Crowd of Misfits at Irving Plaza : Words and Photos by Leia Jospe

a_lj_bbb_DSC_0170.jpg

After arriving to Irving Plaza a few minutes after the 8:00 PM doors and having a few problems with retrieving my photo pass (which ended up being not worth the hassle…considering there was no barricade that night), I walked into a room where I immediately spotted five people wearing Gogol Bordello t-shirts. The room was practically empty, with a few awkwardly placed people in various spots on the floor; one guy dancing and talking to himself, a woman dressed as a gypsy, a hula-hooper, an elderly man sporting a “Start Wearing Purple” T-shirt he turned into a muscle tee, and a few teenage misfits. I was so curious as to what other kind of strange people might show up to this gypsy infused hip-hop gig. Their new album, Nu Med, is out now on JDub Records. More of the review and photos by Leia after the jump!

M.I.A. 3rd World Democracy… More Records Than the KGB… Kala is Rolling Stone’s #1 Album!

mia_fistpump_siren.jpg

Miz Arulpragasam wins Rolling Stone’s 2007 Album of the Year for Kala! She deserves the cover. Alas, looks like the Paper Planes gunshots got censored AGAIN, this time in a leaked version of her new video. That’s all sorts of double-tracked screwed up. Here’s the real one. Read her thoughts *HERE* and let’s hope she can take a nice vacation now…..
