I Wanna Hear What You, What You’ve Got To Say, Hey-Hey-Hey HEY HEY: The Subways Are BACK!

DSC_4013.jpg

Neither break ups or terminal diagnoses can stop this trio. Billy, Charlotte and Josh consist of our fave Boy-Meets-Girl-Forms-Band-Recruits-Brother-On-Drums whilst still underage UK garage outfit. Young for Eternity indeed! The album drops stateside in September (we’re scratching up our copy here in studio, heavy rotation holla!) so be prepared to be impressed. Keep an eye peeled for a feature on ‘Sup! Here’s the setlist from the Subways’ Gramercy Blender 7/25/08 gig:

Kalifornia / Young For Eternity / Oh Yeah / Alright / Obsession / Mary / I Want To Hear (What You’ve Got To Say) / I Won’t Let Steve Down / Turnaround / (spur of the moment addition of a new track) / With You // ENCORE : Girls and Boys / Rock and Roll Queen

With You - The Subways

OH YEAH, as always the whole set of photos from the aforementioned Subways at Gramercy Blender Theatre gig are *HERE*

What’s Red & White & Black & Blue All Over? Us, After Datarock Slayed the Bowery Last Night !!!

datarock_abbeybraden_bowery0001.jpg

FOR REAL. We’re talking getting whipped in the face by ponytails left and right, sweaty dudes and massive amounts of fist pumping, and an uber fan in spike heels that left me with a bloody left toe. All in a day’s work for Datarock, who played yet another gig like it was their last night on earth. I’ve been racking my brain over just *why* I love this band so much, and figured out it really has to do with the year of 1986. You see, that’s when both True Stories AND Top Gun came out, and I was massively conflicted over which had a better soundtrack. Then Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam’s ‘Spanish Fly’ dropped the following year, and yet another set of beats entered my vernacular. But thanks to these boys from Bergen there is no debate over David Byrne vs Danger Zone. You can have it all. PS: They opened with a metal driven version of Maybelline, which was massively successful. Not sure if the audience got their hometown nod to Norwegian Death Metal, but who’s counting. End result? NOBODY left the disco alive. Proper review to come on ‘Sup & photos after the jump…

The Berly Got a Haircut: She is a Pacific Rim Super Star ALSO Mega - Mega Underworld Adoration

THEBERYLSAN_SALON.jpg

Aren’t Mits and Twink Rainbow Brite’s friends? Trippy. Beru-san made it onto a Japanese website and her auntie is very proud. Anyway with the news of Underworld’s upcoming project (Beautiful Burnout ArtJam feature to come lalala) we hypem’d the lads, and came up with an amazing feature by Butter Team - aka yet another reminder of how much awesomer Baltimore’s music scene is growing. Leaps and bounds people. The site’s ‘Special Pacific Rim Sunday Edition’ mixtape angle: “We need to talk. It’s wack you guys get special “Japanese Edition Bonus Tracks” where artists cough up b-sides and other studio scraps for your ears only. We’re OK with the extra Smashing Pumpkins detritus and other stuff no one cares about, but don’t hold back Daft Punk.”

AGREED. Jump, don’t walk, over and score Underworld’s ‘Loads Of Birds’ (bonus from Oblivion With Bells) along with Daft Punk’s ‘Human After All / Together / One More Time (Reprise) / Music Sounds Better With You’ (bonus from Alive 2007) and obscure Boards of Canada music. Impress your friends than with your deft knowledge of Japanese imports…

WITH INTENSITY!

Speaking of Hypothetical Sountracks, UNKLE’s ‘End Titles… Stories For Film’ Drops July 15th

unkle_silouetteblog.jpg

UNKLE’s new album drops July 15th digitally, and gets released old skool hard-copy style September 2nd on Surrender All Records. Pre-order it *HERE* In other James Lavelle - (sorry, we just love saying it= laVELLE!) news, the band remixed the X-Files themesong for the upcoming movie! How crazy is that? Just thinking of a mash up of the themesong, and like, ‘Rabbit in Your Headlights’ is intense- it’s gonna be good.

Now here’s the fun part. The band made 4 tracks that comprise the middle of the album available for free. When streamed consecutively it’s an extended composition.

Kaned And Abel via UNKLE .com (released Fri, June 27)

Chemical (feat. Josh Homme) via Pitchfork (released Mon, June 30)

Blade In The Back (feat. Gavin Clark) via Rcrdlbl .com (released Wed, July 2)

Synthetic Water via UNKLE77 .com (released Fri, July 4)

The above photo was from their epic Webster Hall show last October. Ian Astbury people! Spectacular!

Stereophonics Play ‘DAKOTA’ Live From Abbey Road !!!

HOLY CRAP i totally used to LOVE that song- If Van She’s ‘Kelly’ is the end credits to a great flick, then Stereophonics’ ‘Dakota’ is totally the part where the protagonists figure out they’re in love.
